The dispute began on social media after Snider responded to discussions about former Ozzy collaborator and bassist Bob Daisley’s claims about his contributions to Ozzy’s early solo albums.

Snider said that Daisley wrote lyrics for Ozzy’s first two solo albums and also pointed to other musicians who contributed lyrics to Ozzy’s music and Black Sabbath, including Geezer Butler and Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister.

Kelly responded through her Instagram Stories, defending her father’s contributions as a musician, songwriter, singer and bandleader.

She said her father’s legacy speaks for itself, pointing to his decades-long career and the millions of fans who continue to listen to and support his music.

Kelly also criticised Snider for discussing her father’s career after his death, arguing that he did not know enough about Ozzy’s private or professional life to make such judgments.

She described Snider’s remarks as disrespectful and accused him of attempting to diminish her father’s achievements. Kelly also compared their careers, noting that Ozzy’s career spanned nearly six decades, from his work with Black Sabbath to his successful solo career.

“My father doesn't need Dee Snider's approval to establish his place in music history,” Kelly said. She also questioned whether Snider was using her father’s name to attract attention.

Snider later clarified his comments on X, saying that he did not intend to disrespect Ozzy.

He said he had “nothing but love” for Ozzy and recalled that Black Sabbath had a major influence on him. Snider explained that, as a songwriter himself, he is particularly sensitive to issues involving songwriting credits and royalties.

Kelly, however, remained critical of his explanation. She described it as a backhanded compliment and accused Snider of continuing to use her father’s name to gain attention.

The disagreement has once again brought attention to longstanding discussions surrounding songwriting credits in Ozzy’s music career.

Several musicians who worked with him have publicly discussed their contributions over the years, including Daisley, whose songwriting credits have been the subject of disputes.

Ozzy Osbourne died on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76. He became internationally known as the lead singer of Black Sabbath before building a successful solo career that lasted for decades.

Beyond his music, Ozzy also became a familiar television figure through The Osbournes, the reality series that followed his family and introduced millions of viewers to his life outside the stage.

For Kelly, however, her father’s influence goes beyond questions about individual songwriting credits. She maintains that his contribution to rock and heavy metal music and his lasting influence on generations of fans remain undeniable.

The exchange between Kelly and Snider has therefore renewed public discussion about Ozzy’s musical legacy, the contributions of musicians who worked with him and the question of how his work should be remembered.
