The cause of the fire remains unknown. It broke out during the night, after traders had left the premises, and mainly affected shops selling construction materials and workshops used for craftwork.
The Rwanda National Police responded to the incident and began firefighting operations. However, smoke was still visible at the scene on Sunday morning, forcing traders to suspend business activities.
Gisozi workshops have been repeatedly hit by fires over the years, with at least eight incidents reported since 2017.
