Lecturer at University of Rwanda arrested over allegedly harassing his wife

Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has confirmed that a lecturer at the University of Rwanda (UR) – Huye Campus has been arrested over allegedly harassing his wife, misuse of family’s resources and infidelity.

The man was arrested on 6th May 2023 as confirmed by RIB Spokesperson, Dr. Murangira B. Thierry.

“He is suspected of harassing his spouse, swindling family’s properties and infidelity,” he said.

IGIHE has learnt that the man had been arrested again in January this year over assaulting his wife and misusing family’s resources.

Dr. Murangira has reminded Rwandans to shun misuse of family’ resources in one’s interests and infidelity less the face the law.

“RIB won’t tolerate anyone committing such crimes that also affect children. Harassing a spouse is illegal and shameful,” he noted.

The suspect is detained at RIB Station in Ngoma pending transfer of his files to the Prosecution.

Upon conviction, the suspect is liable to punishments including a sentence ranging from three to two years behind bars.
