In August 2022, U.S. President Joe Biden appointed Eric Kneedler as the U.S. Ambassador to Rwanda, succeeding Peter Vrooman who was reassigned to Mozambique.

Following his appointment, Kneedler arrived in Rwanda and submitted his credentials to Rwanda’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Vincent Biruta, officially starting his tour of duty as the U.S. representative.

During his initial time in Rwanda, Kneedler explored various districts, engaging with local leaders and citizens, gaining a deeper understanding of the country.

One notable visit was to Aubin Produce International Ltd, a company specializing in exporting fruits, vegetables, and honey. Kneedler expressed his admiration for the progress made by beekeepers in the Kayonza District.

The company is known for supporting groups including individuals with disabilities, youth, and women by providing them with necessary equipment and purchasing their produce for export.

Kneedler praised the use of QR Code technology by Aubin Produce, highlighting its importance in tracing the origin of honey for consumers in the Middle East and the United States. This technology, he noted, fosters a significant partnership between Rwanda and the U.S.

The ambassador also took the opportunity to explore Rwanda’s natural beauty, visiting places like Akagera Park, Lake Kivu, and other picturesque locations. These visits offered him a comprehensive view of Rwanda and its government officials.

Describing his experience, Kneedler reflected on the value of connecting with the Rwandan government, private sector, and civil society.

His travels to places such as Akagera Park, Gishwati Park, Lake Kivu, Lake Muhazi, and Ibirunga Park, along with interactions with local farmers and climbing Mount Kalisimbi and Bisoke, enriched his understanding of Rwanda.

He emphasized the importance of strengthening the economic and developmental ties between Rwanda and the United States.
