Minister Biruta attends inauguration of Zambia’s President

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Vincent Biruta on Tuesday 24th August 2021 attended the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema.

Following the ceremony, Hakainde held private talks with several visiting Heads of State and foreign dignitaries including Dr. Biruta at Taj Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka, Zambia.

Zambia’s President has revealed that discussions revolved around different topics to foster foreign relations.

“We shared our development agenda with them which we called "Development for Zambia and Zambians first. We are working on ensuring that Zambia benefits from its geographical position which will foster regional cooperation and integration,” he said.

“We assured the visiting dignitaries of our commitment to ensuring that Zambia’s economy is restored for the sake of the nation and the region at large,” added Hakainde.

Apart from Minister Biruta, other dignitaries who witnessed the nauguration ceremony include Felix Tshisekedi Tshilombo, President of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Chairperson of the African Union; Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera of Malawi and Chairperson of SADC, Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya; Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique, Hage Gottfried Geingob of Namibia, Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe and Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa among others.
