“The President of the Transitional Military Council of Chad, Gen Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno has received Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Vincent Biruta. He delivered a message from President Paul Kagame,” reads the tweet.
Gen Mahamat is the son of former Chadian President, Idriss Deby Itno who recently died on the battlefield after three decades in power.
Gen Mahamat has been demonstrating willingness to maintain good relations with other countries including Rwanda.
In May 2021, Gen Mahamat Idriss Deby sent to Rwanda, his brother Abdelkerim Déby Itno who serves as the Director of Cabinet and Special Envoy the President of the Transitional Military Council where he held talks with President Paul Kagame.
In July 2021, Gen Mahamat held talks with the Secretary General of Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, Louise Mushikiwabo who advised him to organize transparent elections.
He became the interim President of Chad following the death of his father who succumbed to injuries following clashes with rebels in the north of the country in April 2021.
