Nyagatare: Seven-year-old boy blown up by bomb

A seven-year-old boy from Nyagatare District in Rwimiyaga Sector was blown up by a ‘grenade’ bomb after smashing it thinking it was a normal scrap that he could sell for a quick buck.

The unfortunate incident took place on Wednesday morning, August 5, 2020, in Rukundo Village in Kacundezi Cell in Rwimiyaga Sector. He was rushed to Bugaragara Health Center where he was transferred to Nyagatare Hospital where her died from.

According to reports, the child found an iron object in the basement of his home and started disassemble it with anticipation of selling it as scrap.

CIP Twizeyimana Hamdun, Rwanda National Police spokesperson for the Eastern Province told IGIHE that the child was critically injured and taken to the hospital, where he later succumbed to severe injuries.

CIP Twizeyimana urges residents to refrain from smashing iron metal they don’t know.

The seven-year-old was critically injured in the head and legs.
