Nyanza parents receive kindergarten worth Rwf 51 million

Parents from Busasamana sector, Nyanza district have received a childhood development center completed at a cost of Rwf 51 million, thanks to ActionAid Rwanda which funded construction of the facility officially inaugurated on Thursday 10th June 2021.

The kindergarten is located in premises of Kavumu Catholique Primary School in Mukindo village, Kibinja cell.

It has basic equipment including desks, children’s toys and other didactic materials.

The center accommodates 156 children of whom 80 are female while 76 are male.

Parents with children at the kindergarten school have expressed delight for the completed facility considering it a better place to leave children as they engage in income generating activities.

“I have two kids at the nursery school which also feeds and make sure they have slept well when I am away. The facility takes care of children in my absence that I am assured of their safety. It was built upon our request so that we could find a convenient place where they can stay as we engage in other activities,” said Christine Mukamana, a farmer growing cassava.

Another mother, Musengimana observed that the facility is a better place for children to grow properly both physically and mentally.

The head teacher at Kavumu Catholique, Jean de Dieu Kirumugabo said that the facility will inspire children to love school.

The nursery school has three classrooms, two sleeping rooms, four toilets, four water reservoirs and a section dedicated for children’s games.

The Country Director of Actionaid Rwanda, Josephine Uwamariya has explained that it help parents to run businesses as children benefit from offered services ranging from early stimulation, hygiene and sanitation, education, nutrition and health among others.

“They requested us to build early childhood development center where they can leave children while they are away. We pledged to do so as part of our existing interventions beneficial to the community,” she said.

Uwamariya revealed that they plan to build the second phase comprised of a kitchen and washing facility among others.

The vice mayor for economic development in Nyanza district, Patrick Kajyambere has highlighted that the center will enhance children’s proper growth and prevent stunting.

Parents with children at the center committed to provide Rwf 5,000 monthly contribution.

The nursery school was completed at Rwf 51 million.
