President Kagame hosts Chinese and Swedish delegations

President Paul Kagame, on March 20, 2024, welcomed in his office ’Village Urugwiro’, delegations of officials from China and Sweden.

The delegation of officials from China was led by the Deputy Minister of Commerce, Tang Wenhong. The delegation from Sweden was led by the Secretary of State for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade , Diana Janse.

The Office of the President explained that Deputy Minister Wenhong and his team came to Kigali for the ninth session of the Rwanda-China Joint Economic, Technical, and Trade Committee (JETTCO).

"President Kagame welcomed the Deputy Minister of Commerce from China, Tang Wenhong, and his delegation, who came to Rwanda for the ninth session of the joint committee between Rwanda and China on economic, technical, and trade cooperation," reads the statement.

The office further explained that Janse and her team visited Rwanda to strengthen the relationship between Rwanda and Sweden.

It was noted, "President Kagame also received the Secretary of State from Sweden in charge of International Development Cooperation, Diana Janse and her team, to discuss strengthening the existing relationship, trade, and investment between Rwanda and Sweden."

The relationship between Rwanda and China has lasted nearly 52 years, producing significant results. For instance, from 2003 to the end of 2023, 118 Chinese projects in Rwanda were valued at $959.7 million.

Based on the cooperation agreements between these countries, in 2022, Rwanda exported goods worth $102 million to China. These goods include coffee, minerals, and chili peppers.

Regarding Sweden, the relationship with this country began after the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994. These countries collaborate not only in economic development but also in justice.

Deputy Minister Wenhong and his team came to Kigali for the ninth session of the Rwanda-China Joint Economic, Technical, and Trade Committee (JETTCO).
The delegation from Sweden was led by the Secretary of State for International Development Cooperation, Diana Janse.
The Secretary of State for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade , Diana Janse was also hosted at Urugwiro Village.
