President Paul Kagame has received the CEO of NBA Africa, Clare Akamanzi, and Amadou Gallo Fall, the President of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) to his office where they discussed the partnership between Rwanda and BAL and the upcoming final games of the league, which will be held in Kigali from May.

Clare Akamanzi, who began her role as the CEO of NBA Africa in January of this year, previously served as the CEO of the Rwanda Development Board. NBA Africa, part of the American Basketball Championship, aims to nurture talent in basketball across the African continent.

Akamanzi is responsible for overseeing NBA’s business operations and talent development initiatives in Africa, as well as enhancing the popularity of the NBA in Africa.

The BAL finals are scheduled to take place in Kigali between May 24 and June 1, 2024, featuring eight teams that will have qualified from the preliminary rounds played in different groups across various countries.

Teams in the Kalahari Conference will compete at the SunBet Arena in South Africa from March 9-17, while the Nile Conference teams will play at the Hassan Mostafa Indoor Sports Complex in Cairo, Egypt, from April 19-27, 2024. The Sahara Conference teams will play at the Dakar Arena in Senegal from May 4-12, 2023.

Each group consists of four teams, with the top two from each group qualifying for the quarterfinals, making six teams in total. To fill the remaining two spots for a total of eight, the third-placed teams from each group will compete against each other.

On June 19, 2023, Rwanda and BAL renewed their collaboration agreement, originally started in 2021, extending it for another five years.
