Meanwhile, Prof. Flemming Besenbacher is the visionary behind Unleash, a global innovation platform. Unleash gathers 1,000 youth from around the world annually for a week-long innovation lab held in Kigali.
This initiative aims to address global challenges and contribute to sustainable solutions for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
Of the participants, 200 are from Rwanda, showcasing projects with the potential to contribute to national development.
The meeting with President Kagame included key figures such as the Minister of ICT and Innovation, Paula Ingabire, and the CEO of Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Francis Gatare.
Unleash, a global innovation lab, has been held in Africa for the first time since 2017, following previous editions in Denmark, Singapore, and Shenzhen, China.
The lab serves as a platform to accelerate disruptive ideas by engaging top talents in problem-solving and co-creation activities, with the mission to bring the best ideas to life.
Outstanding projects from the innovation lab will have the opportunity to continue working with Unleash, undergoing a six-month incubation period and receiving prizes. Selected projects will also be connected with investors or facilitated to start implementation.
The culmination of the innovation lab will take place at the Solutions Festival and Hanga Pitchfest 2023, Rwanda’s largest in-person technology event scheduled for Friday, December 8. During this event, top finalists will pitch their prototypes, marking a significant milestone in the pursuit of innovative solutions.
