Rwanda receives 17th batch of refugees from Libya

The Ministry of Emergency Management (MINEMA) announced that on the evening of Thursday, Rwanda received the 17th batch of 91 refugees from Libya, where they had been living in difficult conditions while trying to make their way to Europe.

In a statement posted on X account, MINEMA shows that the refugees included 38 from Sudan, 33 from Eritrea, 11 from Somalia, 7 from Ethiopia, and 2 from South Sudan.

Rwanda started this program in 2019, aiming to assist Africans in distress, who were mistreated on their journey to Europe.

To date, it has received over 2000 refugees from Libya, with more than 1600 having been resettled in third party countries.

Among these, 255 were sent to Sweden, 496 to Canada, 196 to Norway, 141 are in France, 201 in Finland, 52 were sent to the Netherlands, 26 are in Belgium, and 237 are in the United States.

Rwanda has received the 17th batch of refugees from Libya.
