Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) has brought a welcome change for motorists by revising down fuel prices, marking the first decrease since June 2023. The announcement on December 5th revealed a significant reduction in petrol prices, dropping from Rwf1822 to Rwf1639 per liter—a noteworthy decrease of Rwf183. Additionally, diesel prices saw a cut from Rwf1662 to Rwf1635 per liter.

RURA issued a statement on Tuesday, assuring that the new pump prices would remain unchanged for the next two months. These adjustments took effect on Wednesday.

RURA Director General, Evariste Rugigana attributed these revisions to the fluctuations in petroleum product prices observed in the international market. The move reflects a commitment to align local fuel costs with global trends.

The last reduction in fuel prices occurred in June when gasoline fell to Rwf1,517 per liter from Rwf1,528, and diesel experienced a reduction from Rwf1,518 per liter to Rwf1,492.
