Rwandans in South Africa urged to embrace patriotism

Rwanda’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Eugene Segore Kayihura has urged Rwandan community in the country to uphold Rwandan culture and embrace patriotism as values that should guide them in daily life along the journey to contribute to national development.

Amb. Kayihura delivered the message recently on 18th February 2023 as Rwandans in South Africa celebrated National Heroes Day.

It was the first time to celebrate such event since the establishment of Rwandan Community Abroad (RCA) in South Africa.

The event was attended by 150 members of Rwandan Community living in South and countries of Jurisdiction.

In his welcoming address, the Chairman of Rwandan Community in South Africa, Bernabé Toussaint Munyankindi thanked all Rwandans in attendance and reminded them to always strive to be disciplined and to ’follow the steps of our Heroes’.

During the event, Ephraim Murenzi and Chantal Ingabire Gorette, members of RCA, gave a talk regarding the History of Heroes Day, the role of women and their heroism in the journey of national development.

They both reminded the youth that heroism starts at young age citing the example of those who liberated our country.

Members had time to ask questions about Heroes Day. The event also featured entertainment dominated by traditional performances as well as poems praising Rwanda’s Heroes.
