FREETOWN, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) — Sierra Leone on Tuesday arranged a state funeral in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, for six police officers killed in unrest happening early this month in the country.

The six police officers died on Aug. 10 during clashes with protesters, who took to the streets in many parts of the country demanding the government grapple with the rising cost of living.

According to the police, government and private property were destroyed during the unrest with several civilians injured. The exact number of protesters killed remained unknown.

The six police officers were buried at the Hastings Police Training School in Freetown.

During the funeral, Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio sympathized with the families of the dead and promised to open a fundraising account to support them.

Meanwhile, the police said they have arrested 113 protesters who are helping with investigations.
