Fighters from the Allied Democratic Forces, which have bases in the forests of Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, crossed the borders on Saturday last week with the intention of launching terrorist attacks in urban areas of Uganda.
The Deputy Spokesperson of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Col Deo Akiiki, has urged the public to remain vigilant to avoid being affected by the ADF’s terrorist attacks.
In a statement he issued, it is suspected that the group is led by the terrorist Ahamed Muhamood Hassan, also known as Abu Waqas, an explosives expert born in Tanzania.
He has called on the public to inform the security forces about any individual or group of people they suspect to be part of this group.
BBC reported that the ADF is closely linked with the Islamic State group and has been accused of carrying out various terrorist attacks in Kampala.
In 2021, Uganda, in cooperation with the DRC, attempted to decimate this group, but without success. However, President Museveni has often stated that the attacks they launched resulted in the death of many, including senior leaders of the group.
