The United States has been irked by words the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, who said that the international military alliance, NATO, could send troops to fight in Ukraine.

In February 2024, President Macron announced that if NATO considers providing support to Ukraine to help it defend against Russia, it should also think about sending soldiers.

These words were openly rejected by some NATO member countries, indicating that this decision would lead the organization into an outright war with Russia.

An American official told Bloomberg that Macron should not have said these words, as it could lead Russia to suspect that NATO is considering sending troops to Ukraine.

This unnamed official said that it would have negative consequences for NATO, as it could be a trigger between this organization and Russia.

President Macron made these statements at a time when Russia claims that some NATO member countries have sent their troops to Ukraine to help with the use of sophisticated weapons provided, including France and the UK.
