Zirimwabagabo replaces Col Karuretwa as President’s Principal Private Secretary

Irene Zirimwabagabo has been appointed the Principal Private Secretary to President Paul Kagame replacing Colonel Patrick Karuretwa who had held the position since 2013.

IGIHE has learnt that Col Karuretwa was recently assigned to other military duties.

His successor, Zirimwabagabo will be deputized by Keuria Sangwa.

He assumed different positions in the media after graduating from Notre Dame University in the United States of America.

Zirimwabagabo once worked as Communication Officer at the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), Central African Regional Office.

In the same Office of the President, Stephanie Nyombayire has been appointed the Deputy Principle Private Secretary in charge of communications while Viviane Mukakizima will serve as Director General of Communications.

Lt Col Regis Rwagasana Sankara was named the Executive Office Security Liaison and Juliana Muganza as policy co-ordinator in the same office.

Lt Col Rwagasana was elevated from the rank of Major in 2019 few days after emerging the best overall student upon completion of studies at Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Command and Staff College in Nyakinama.

He studied at Royal Military Academy Belgium.

All the appointees in the Presidency have been previously assuming other duties at the same office.

Colonel Patrick Karuretwa has been serving as the Principal Private Secretary to the President since 2013.
