Dose the rate of crime increase unemployment? This is a question that not many have thought of asking. Whenever the issue of crime and unemployment is mentioned what comes to mind is unemployment increases crime rate.

Though it is true that unemployment increases crime, it is equally true that crime increases unemployment. The two complement each other whereby increase in one leads to the increase of the other.

There are a number of factors about crime that lead to increased unemployment. The black market has contributed largely to this with the sale of second hand products and counterfeit goods. These goods are in popular demand as they are easier and cheaper to own.

Thus leaving registered companies losing customer base and thus resulting to unemployment to avoid incurring extra costs. Incidences such at terror attacks are also other factors of crime that lead to the increase in unemployment.

Making money at a faster rate than the average employee famously known as “hustling” has become the fastest source of income for most of the youth who make the largest percentage our society today. These three are some of the main criminal factors that encourage unemployment.

Whenever we talk about the black-market the first thought that we have is illegal trade or expensive goods at a cheaper price.

In the black-market the products are usually cheaper as compared to the ordinary market. With increased activity in the black-market many people find it more profitable than the ordinary legal market.

This means that the black-market will be more popular and many people will prefer trading in those illegal markets. Underpaid employees will also venture in to this market.

As a result of all this the employers will be forced to retrench most of their employees because of this issue as it is a sign of misconduct. For the employers to trust people and employ them again becomes extremely difficult.

The youth make the largest percentage of the population, and they are still the largest percentage involved in this market which translates to increased unemployment.

Investors will also be afraid of investing in products and services which are popular in the black-market because they will incur more losses rather than profits.As a result unemployment increases in the society.

Security issues are a very big factor when it comes to unemployment rates. A good example is terror attacks in Kenya where the tourism industry has suffered immense losses as well as the hotelier sector.

What this directly translates to is retrenchment of employees in order for them to survive. The rate at which tourist are visiting Kenya since the increased insecurity issues has drastically reduced.

The hotels have been forced to retrench some of their workers due to lack of business especially in coast province.

The tourism companies also will be forced to do the same as their counterparts given that the rate of tourism will have reduced.

This will cause a domino effect from the hotel industry to the tourism companies down to the businesses which depend on the tourist presence in the country.

Some businesses go to the extent of even closing their shops which means no jobs for the people who they had employed.

Destruction of property as results of criminal activities leads to lack of jobs. A good example is the august 2013 mall attack in Nairobi Kenya, where the building was severely damaged and caused the closure of the mall. Again it translates to losing jobs which increases the unemployment rate.

Although crime is an aiding factor to majority of an economies citizens, what can be done to curb it? Education has been a very essential factor in the world. Within the developing countries the literacy rate is growing at a steady pace but is it helping or drifting people from the importance of it all?

Many girls are getting into university with amazing ideas, ambitions and goals. But with the pressures of admiring celebrities and idolizing socialites our youth is drifting from the importance of this world.

All the women want to be seen wearing the most expensive weaves, carrying the most branded hand bags and posting on instagram lavish foods and drinks.

The basic university girl is a student during the day and an escort at night. The casualties of being an escort has grown rapidly in the developing world. It’s a profession by choice, easy money and as *Sharon says “it gets me more money than I would get if I was having an ordinary job”.

Is education and doing basic courses in school enough for our youth? Do they need to be educated more on the importance of a legal profession other than the illegal fast moving life? Crime is indeed very attractive to the average Joe’s eye.

One of the greatest issues that people face is the demand of experience in a field when applying for jobs. Many people graduate with distinction but if they lack the five years experience they are nowhere in this world we live in.

Students should be educated on getting degrees not to be employed but to employ, we need to start working as nations that help their child and their neighbors child to be better and quit being selfish and only trying to help our own.

The lack of qualities in one individual can be established in another but with favoritism, tribalism and selfishness we will never move forward. Either it being as a country, nation or a continent.

Crime can only be evaded from our youth when they watch their elders doing good as their mentors. Corruption would only end if we start it at home as an example to yourself and your families. As yourself: is the man in the mirror the person I want the world to look up to? Or can I do better?
