{Our tomorrow depends on the questions we ask today. If we look at Rwanda in 2025 and above, job creation problem is going to grow larger. It is obvious and visible with naked eyes and in the heart of EDPRS I and II, Rwanda has had impressive socio-economic outcomes in the past decade sustaining growth and lifting a million people above the poverty line but still job creation is severe issue in the young country like Rwanda.}
Therefore, governance has a key for betterment of citizens and my view has a lot in common with the ongoing dialogue regarding presidential term-limits in Rwanda. Some have argued that we must adhere to the current provisions of limitations stipulated in the Constitution, while others stand for reserving the right to amend our Constitution.
However, in writing this piece my mind is not to come back on what has been written about presidential term limits in Rwanda. I want to firmly suggest that whatever we decide, the next leaders have the biggest challenge for providing jobs to graduate students and entire youth joining the labour market every year. The global world is so competitive and unemployment issues continue to capture national and international headlines. My question for the next leaders who aspire for leading our country in coming years is how do they look at the aspirations of the youth joining the labour workforce every year and how they will fulfill them?
The country should help talented young people fulfill their aspirations.
Quality of Education severe challenge to Rwandan education system
Another challenge related to job creation and employment in general is that graduates from Rwandan education system are criticized to lack of English speaking knowledge, lack knowledge and skills to fit business opportunities. I am pretty sure investors and business people face a skills deficit that arises from a disconnect between their needs and skills of graduates .Micro and small firms lack basic business management skills , lack of skilled human resource professionals and practices further exacerbates the skills gap in our country. Even when skills are available, the placement and management of human resources remains as a challenge. The leaders have a mandate to modify the destiny of our nation.
